Ann-Marie MacDonald OC (born October 29, 1958) is a legendary Canadian author, playwright, award-winning actor, and broadcaster whose diverse body of work has earned profound international acclaim. Born on a Canadian military base in West Germany and educated at the National Theatre School of Canada, she initially made her mark as a stage and screen actor, winning a Gemini Award and earning a Genie nomination. She vaulted to literary prominence with her 1988 comedic feminist play Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), which swept Canada's top theatrical honors including the Governor General's Award for Drama. MacDonald expanded into fiction with her monumental 1996 debut novel Fall on Your Knees, which won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize and became an international bestseller after its historic selection for Oprah’s Book Club.
