The Haunting of L.

by Howard Norman

The Haunting of L. is Howard Norman’s atmospheric literary suspense novel and the concluding volume of his Canadian trilogy. Set primarily in 1920s Manitoba and Halifax, it follows Peter Duvett, a young assistant to portrait photographer Vienna Linn. Peter is drawn into Linn’s disturbing work, a dangerous romantic triangle, and a fascination with spirit photographs in which figures from the past seem to reappear.

Published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2002, this hardcover is a stated first edition and second printing, as identified by the number line ending in 2. It retains its original dust jacket and carries ISBN 0-374-16825-3.

The title page is personally inscribed to Tracy and signed by Howard Norman. This is an author-inscribed copy rather than a previous owner’s signature.

The seller grades the book Very Good. The dust jacket shows moderate shelf wear, including rubbing and wear at the edges and corners, small scuffs, and light surface marks visible in the photographs. The jacket is now housed in a removable clear plastic protective cover. The photographed title and copyright pages are intact and legible.
