Caesars of the Wilderness

Signed hardcover copy of Caesars of the Wilderness by Peter C. Newman, published in 1987 by Viking/Penguin Books Canada. This is Company of Adventurers, Volume II, and the book has been flat signed by Newman on the title page without a visible personalization.

Newman's second volume on the Hudson's Bay Company examines the fierce commercial struggle between the HBC and the North West Company, the consolidation of the Canadian fur trade and the personalities who shaped the development of the Canadian Northwest. The extensively illustrated volume includes photographs and historical images, along with maps, notes, a bibliography and an index.

The book is housed in its original illustrated dust jacket, which is now protected in a removable clear plastic cover. The jacket has visible rubbing, creasing and edge and corner wear, including a short tear along the upper edge near the first letter of the title and wear around the upper-left corner/spine area. The representative interior spread shown is clean and legible, with no writing, stains or tears visible on those pages.

A collectible author-signed Canadian history volume with particular interest for readers and collectors of Hudson's Bay Company, fur-trade and Western Canadian history. It will be carefully packed to help protect the book and dust jacket in transit.
