Reel's narrative history follows nineteenth-century explorer Paul Du Chaillu, whose West African expeditions and gorilla specimens propelled him into Victorian celebrity and the era's contentious debates over evolution, science, religion, race, and exploration.

This copy is flat signed by Monte Reel, with no inscription visible. An Autographed Copy sticker remains on the front dust jacket. The book also features deckled-edge pages.

Very Good overall, with light edge and corner wear and mild age-related discoloration to the dust jacket. Light yellowing is visible along the outer edge of the rear jacket flap. The photographed signature and copyright pages appear clean. The dust jacket is now housed in a removable clear plastic protective cover.
