Istanbul

by Shirin Devrim

A Turkish Tapestry: The Shakirs of Istanbul by Shirin Devrim, published in London by Quartet Books in 1994. This is the first edition hardcover with its original dust jacket and contains black-and-white photographic illustrations.

Devrim's family chronicle recounts the personalities and experiences of the prominent Shakir Pasha family of Istanbul, connecting their private lives with the final decades of the Ottoman Empire and the emergence of modern Turkey. The illustrated volume comprises 243 pages plus preliminary matter and photographic plates.

This copy is personally inscribed to Lorraine with the author's best wishes, signed “Shirin Devrim,” and dated New York, February 28, 1996. It is an inscribed presentation copy rather than a flat-signed copy.

Page toning is present. The dust jacket shows minor visible edge and corner wear, including light creasing near the lower corners, and is now protected in a removable clear plastic cover. The photographed interior spread shows one of the book's black-and-white illustrations and no obvious markings within the visible area.
