Dr. Viet Thanh Nguyen is an internationally acclaimed Vietnamese-American cultural critic, public intellectual, and Aerol Arnold Chair of English at the University of Southern California whose searing, genre-shattering narratives have redefined post-colonial literature and permanent histories of the Vietnam War. Born in Buôn Ma Thuột, Vietnam, Nguyen arrived in the United States as a refugee following the fall of Saigon in 1975, eventually settling in San Jose, California. He formalized his multidisciplinary scholarship at the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Ethnic Studies before earning his Doctor of Philosophy in English.
