Steve Paikin OC OOnt (born June 9, 1960) is an iconic Canadian journalist, author, and broadcaster who is widely recognized as one of the country's premier interviewers and political analysts. Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a Master’s degree in journalism from Boston University. Paikin built an exceptional media career at TVO (Television Ontario), where he hosted the flagship current-affairs program The Agenda with Steve Paikin for 19 highly successful seasons. Moving into digital-first storytelling, he now hosts The Paikin Podcast and co-hosts TVO’s popular provincial politics program, the #onpoli podcast. Trusted for his rigorous neutrality and deep institutional knowledge, Paikin has moderated numerous federal and Ontario provincial election leaders’ debates. A highly respected author, he has published eight influential books detailing the internal mechanics of Canadian democracy, including The Dark Side: The Personal Price of a Life in Politics, Bill Davis: Nation Builder, and Not So Bland After All, and his 2024 analysis, John Turner: An Intimate Biography of Canada's 17th Prime Minister. In recognition of his monumental lifetime contributions to public-interest journalism, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada and a Member of the Order of Ontario.
