Author profile

Simon Jacobson

Simon Jacobson (born 1956) is an American rabbi, writer, and educator associated with the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. He is the founding dean of The Meaningful Life Center, a Brooklyn-based organization whose programming presents Torah and Chassidic thought in relation to personal, spiritual, and contemporary questions.

Beginning in 1979, Jacobson led Vaad Hanochos Hatmimim, a team that memorized and transcribed talks delivered by Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, on Sabbaths and Jewish holidays. The Meaningful Life Center states that, over more than fourteen years as the group’s editor-in-chief, Jacobson oversaw the publication of over 1,000 of those talks. He also headed the research team for Sefer HaLikutim, a 26-volume encyclopedic collection of Chassidic thought.

Jacobson wrote Toward a Meaningful Life: The Wisdom of the Rebbe, first published by William Morrow in 1995. The book organizes themes from Schneerson’s teachings as a guide to questions of purpose, relationships, work, suffering, and spiritual life. He is also identified by his official biography as chairman and publisher of The Algemeiner, and his essays and books are represented in Chabad.org’s author archive. His continuing work through the Meaningful Life Center includes lectures, courses, articles, and video programming.
