Author profile

Lilly Singh

Lilly Singh (born September 26, 1988), famously known by her early digital moniker "IISuperwomanII," is a pioneering Canadian comedian, actress, late-night television host, producer, and bestselling author whose viral digital sketch comedy transformed the global landscape of modern internet culture. Raised in Scarborough, Ontario, she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from York University before launching her YouTube channel in 2010 to combat depression, quickly vaulting into international internet superstardom as one of the world's highest-paid digital creators by amassing billions of views through her satirical cultural parodies. In 2019, she shattered systemic network television glass ceilings by becoming the first open member of the LGBTQ+ community and the first woman of South Asian descent to host a major American broadcast network late-night talk show, executive producing and hosting NBC's A Little Late with Lilly Singh through June 2021. Expanding her media empire into print, Singh captured major publishing honors when her 2017 debut self-improvement guide, How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life, became a #1 New York Times bestseller and secured the 2017 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Nonfiction, a success she followed up with her vulnerable 2022 mindfulness manifesto, Be a Triangle: How I Went from Being Lost to Getting My Life Together. A fierce champion for gender equity and systemic representation, she runs her own multimedia production banner, Unicorn Island Productions, serves as a global UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, judges the hit national talent competition Canada's Got Talent, and voices major characters in animated blockbusters like The Bad Guys 2.
