Dave Boling

Dave Boling (born September 13, 1951) is an acclaimed American sports journalist, columnist, and bestselling historical fiction novelist based on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. A native of South Chicago, he worked an array of diverse blue-collar jobs—including stints as a college football coach, logger, and ironworker—before launching a prolific, multi-decade sports writing career in the Pacific Northwest. He catapulted into international literary prominence at age 53 with his 2008 debut masterpiece, Guernica. The epic historical novel elegantly threads a fictional family saga through the tragic 1937 German Luftwaffe bombing of the Basque cultural capital, securing the prestigious 2009 Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA) Book Award for Fiction. Boling expanded his literary footprint with his 2014 Amazon Editors’ Pick novel, The Lost History of Stars (published in the UK as The Undesirables), which examines the horrors of South African concentration camps during the Boer War. A highly versatile storyteller, he also authored the sports chronicle Tales From The Gonzaga Hardwood and co-wrote the deeply moving memoir The Warner Boys alongside former Seattle Seahawks star Curt Warner and his wife Ana to chronicle their family's experience raising twin sons with severe autism.
