Bruce Heyman

Bruce A. Heyman (born 1958) is an American banker, diplomat, and author whose public career is closely associated with the U.S.–Canada relationship. He served as U.S. Ambassador to Canada under President Barack Obama, presenting his credentials on April 8, 2014, and leaving the post on January 18, 2017, as recorded by the U.S. Department of State.

Heyman earned both a B.A. and an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University. Before entering diplomatic service, he spent 33 years at Goldman Sachs, including as managing director of its Private Wealth Management Group and as a partner. His ambassadorial appointment brought that financial-sector background to a role focused on one of the United States’ central bilateral partnerships.

With Vicki Heyman, he co-authored The Art of Diplomacy, a 2019 book on diplomacy and the Canada–U.S. relationship, published by Simon & Schuster. He later became co-chair of the Canada Institute Advisory Board at the Wilson Center. In October 2024, Power Sustainable appointed him Chief Executive Officer, drawing on his experience in finance and public service.
