Anthony Riches (born 1961) is a United Kingdom novelist whose fiction combines Roman military history with adventure narratives. He holds a degree in Military Studies from the University of Manchester; his interest in military history also reflects family connections to service in the two world wars. Before publication, he worked in business systems and change-project management in the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, and Asia.
Riches began the story that became Wounds of Honour after visiting Housesteads Roman fort in 1996. Published in 2009, the novel introduced Marcus Valerius Aquila and began the Empire sequence, a series set on and around the frontiers of the Roman Empire. The supplied catalogue titles Fortress of Spears and The Eagle's Vengeance are the third and sixth Empire novels respectively. His Roman-fiction bibliography also includes the Centurions trilogy, set during the Batavian uprising of AD 69.
Alongside historical fiction, Riches writes the contemporary Michael Bale thrillers, beginning with Nemesis. His official website presents the Empire series as a fifteen-book sequence and announces Swords of Troy, a historical novel drawing on the Trojan War tradition. He lives in Suffolk, according to his publisher biography.
